KIP(Crip) WALK across the finish line - Gasparilla 2010 5K

Publix Supermarkets Gasparilla Distance Classic
February 27, 2010

Kip Litton is seen here walking during a 17:33 5k (5:38 min/mile) performance. From the pictures it appears he had an orange D-Tag (electronic timing device) on his right shoe. His clock/gun time was 20:40, which means it took him 3 minutes and 7 seconds to cross the starting line after the race had already started.

To see photos of Kip Litton at the 5K:
  1. Go to http://www.marathonfoto.com
  2. Under Select Race Select Gasparilla 5K15K 2010
  3. Type in Litton under last name
  4. Type 27641 under Bib Number (Kip Litton's bib number)

Note - Kip wasn't done. He came back to run a marathon at the event in 2:53:52. Splits don't make sense either. When I get more time, I'll post why but for now go take a look...

"I had previously commented on the unrealistic performance of KL in the 2010 Gasparilla Distance Classic. 2nd thread, summarized here:
'The 15K starts at 7:05 am, and the 5K at 9:30 am. Litton would have finished at 8 am. Now consider that his 15K time would have been a 4 1/2 min. PR past age 40. Are you then going to come back after this and run a 5K with only 1 1/2 hrs rest, and run within 17 sec of your PR? And -- at age 48 -- do all this before running a marathon the next day within 2 1/2 min. of your PR? I don't think so!'"

  2. One thing I cant figure out -> see that woman running on the side with Kip during his 2:53 marathon? She has a bib number that I think says "25919" although it's hard to read. I was trying to look up that bib as well to find out what her paces were and how they matched with kip's pace with a delayed start

  3. I agree! Very, very nice work putting this blog together. Please keep it up, even after the Kip Litton thread gets going again on LetsRun. These tell the whole story, with pics, etc.

*** Please see my comments under the "2nd Big LetsRun.com thread on Kip Litton Deleted // Update on Vermont Video" blog entry. Rojo sent me an email saying 1.) he had been unaware of the deletions; 2.) supports "outing" Kip, and 3.) has told the moderator to NOT delete the Kip threads anymore.

I posted the entire emails in the comments under the other post.

    Well done guys!!!!

  6. Marathon Pic - I've run the Gasparilla Marathon the last 3 years. That picture is late in the race along Bayshore Blvd. You could confirm with google maps street view and find the house in the background. The girl he's passing is part of the half marathon (she's wearing the race shirt - bright blue for Full, bright green for Half). The Full & Half course merge at some point along Bayshore and finish at the same place near Publix.

  8. There's a thread on LetsRun.com http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=3863010
titled "Rojo says he might start a Kip Litton thread but only 1 and only 1 thread" good place for brainstorming, but nothing really new to this point, except perhaps some new info on Gasparilla Marathon2010. Also, i think Kip is still listed as the winner of the Gasparilla Michelob Ultra Challenge on wikipedia and few other sources
There is an asterix next to Kip's performance though - anyone know what this means?

  9. The woman he is passing has bib 25919 in the HM. She finished 3:02:34 gun and 2:58:53 chip. Does anyone know if both races started at the same time? Notice that the woman took 3:41 to cross the start line. Our friend took 4:04 to cross the start line. Is it possible he simply ran the HM????

  11. Are there any photos showing what Litton was wearing at the beginning of the marathon? There's a video of the 2010 marathon on youtube, a guy gets onto a motorized buggy type thing in the background at 3:07. Pretty sure it's not him but would be a good way to get around the road closures by pretending your race crew.
